Fundamentals of Trauma Informed Care

For Bodyworkers and Movement Professionals

You came to this work to help people and lack of results, client “compliance,” and imposter syndrome nips in the back of your mind.

You might be confused about how to navigate growing diversity in your practice including how to use pronouns, language challenges, and navigating consent.

You may have clients presenting with depression, anxiety, PTSD or other mental health or behavioral challenges and feel overwhelmed with how to support them, maybe experiencing your own compassion fatigue.

You want to make sure you are creating a supportive space that feels safe for your clients and identify approaches and procedures that protect your own professional practice.

You want to feel empowered in your work and support your client’s self empowerment for more successful treatment outcomes.

I am a yoga teacher (RYT 500) and a licensed clinical social worker (in practice since 1995). I attend many workshops and trainings. I found this to be incredibly informative for both practices. Additionally, I feel that this is one of the best teachers that I have taken a workshop or training with: expert, well prepared and organized, completely clear, flexible, nurturing, attentive to the needs of individual students - absolutely the perfect balance of qualities one could hope for in an instructor. I would 100% recommend this workshop and anything this teacher offers.”

About Joann Engelberth (she, her)

The past ten years of my life have been dedicated to my recovery for the benefit of myself, my family, my community, and all beings.

My yoga studies and trauma training have equipped me with a groundedness and freedom I thought I’d never experience. I am grateful to be in a position to share the knowledge and practices I’ve learned to heal myself with you.

About Dr. Julieta Rushford Santiago (she, her, ella)

In 2017 my only child was diagnosed with cancer. Leukemia treatment was a 3+ years process. Two years into it, I, too, was diagnosed with cancer. I feel strongly that the healing work I had done during my life prepared me for the extreme stress I experienced.

Doctor of Chiropractic

I am a native of Puerto Rico. After high school, I earned a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, followed by a Doctorate Degree in Chiropractic from Life University in Marietta, Georgia.  I have over 30 years of experience in the holistic chiropractic technique, Network Spinal Analysis.

Certified Aromatherapist

About 10 years ago I was introduced to essential oils and have been implementing them in my practice with astounding results. My focus is on emotional support by addressing the body and mind with the help of these natural essences.

Trauma-Informed Care Practitioner

My personal trauma journey led me to a Professional Certification as a Trauma-Informed Care Practitioner from the Trauma Informed Care Training Center.  I am now able to see through the lens of trauma that guides me in supporting myself and my clients in a deeper way.

Teacher

I have taught Human Biology, Anatomy & Physiology at a college level.  I enjoy co-leading healing workshops over the past 3 decades on hands-on clearing of the nervous system as a way to bring ease and peace to the bodymind.

"I have been working with Dr. Julieta for several years now and am most astonished at the layers and years of trauma that we have uncovered, in which I thought I had moved on from. I have had new spots in my spine open to pain, which raising a child has unknowingly triggered. Julieta has been able to identify not only where the physical stress is stemming from, but also an age or experience which may be connected to it. When I first began this work years ago, I went through an array of emotions that were very uncomfortable, but I quickly learned that they are all necessary to heal. This has helped me to accept the anger that comes up and allow myself to work through it. I could not have asked for better teachers in this healing journey!"

What’s Included

"I hadn't seen Julieta in quite a while and was looking forward to it because I knew I had a lot to process but didn't feel able to on my own. She could immediately feel the tension in my spine and was able to pinpoint that I had gone through some kind of trauma. Having been given the space to call my experience "trauma" immediately sent me to tears and a release that I had needed for months. I had hidden away this story in my mind and body because I was afraid of what I would uncover by bringing it up. Julieta helped me to talk about this trauma and release the tension in my mind and body. Her recognition of my experience helped me see that I can also recognize my own trauma and allow myself to feel the emotions surrounding it."
