Personal Self Healing Sessions with Joann

Feel better. Move better.
Function better.

You’ve been in and out of varying degrees of physical pain, and it’s a drag.  You envisioned your life and way of being in the world quite differently. Maybe you have hobbies, athletic pursuits, or a job you miss dearly. You believe there is a way to heal, but haven’t found your recipe for success yet. You want to feel strong in your body again.

You experience pain and you want to own your healing. Whether it’s anxiety, injury, loss, chronic pain, depression, stress, or trauma you seek relief and self-understanding. You may have several of the challenges above and several different people treating you with medicine, food, exercises, talk therapy, massage, art therapy, chiropractic care, and more. You notice some things help some of the time, but you haven’t found the consistent thread.

You’ve heard that bodymind practices like yoga heal, but you haven’t found what works for you. Maybe you’ve tried several yoga teachers and class styles, and your injuries were exacerbated. Or you’ve yet to find the right fit. You’d like a better understanding of how bodymind practices help you and how to implement them into your daily life in a sustainable way.

You want a yoga practice that honors your heart, mind, and body. You are looking for an uplifting philosophy for your life. A view of the world that resonates with your heart and honors the roots of yoga. You wish to calm your mind, to bring more clarity to your vision, and find that ever-elusive “repose of the mind.” You seek a smart physical yoga practice, steeped in alignment and biomechanics, informed by therapeutic practices from multiple disciplines including physical therapy, neurobiology, anatomy, biomechanics, and more.

You’re a yoga teacher looking for more confidence and inspiration so you can share your teaching in an emotionally and physically sustainable way. As a teacher, it can be challenging to come to your mat inspired week after week, especially if your body shows up differently for you week after week! Staying motivated when your bodymind is unsettled is a unique challenge for you as an embodied yoga teacher.

Private Sessions Can Help

As your private movement and healing educator I bring many tools and practices from a variety of arenas of study and practice: yoga philosophy, meditation and movement practices; trauma-informed care that includes safety, trust & transparency, collaboration and mutuality, empowerment & choice; and always building my cultural, gender, and historical awareness. I teach polyvagal theory and the neurobiological underpinnings of pain and healing; pre and post rehabilitative exercises from the fitness, yoga, and physical therapy world, as well as my own personal experiences in these arenas!

Private sessions are designed around your particular goals and needs and flex and grow with you. I do not use a cookie-cutter template. Together we identify your areas of interest, be that private yoga, TRE® guidance, personal training, teacher mentorship, and most often combinations of these approaches to support you on your healing and learning journey.

Because I teach self-healing through an embodied experience, our goals always include cultivating awareness of your inner body sense as a primary pathway to wellness.

“I came to my work with Joann due to a high-speed ski collision. I knew I would not be able to return to my regular workout routines with ease, as I was recovering from 5 fractures in my lower leg that were put back together in a 4-hour surgery with a lot of internal fixation hardware. Joann has met me where I am with understanding and compassion. Her knowledge of various yoga and healing modalities are enhanced by her years of experience. She listens carefully and is extremely thoughtful in her planning for my sessions. She is a competent and sensitive instructor. If you are recovering from an injury, are experiencing any health challenges, or just want to feel better, your time will be well spent with Joann.”

Private Sessions Are For You If You:

This Is Not For You If You:

"Joann is an amazing yoga and guided meditation teacher. She also teaches TRE which I have taken in workshops and several private sessions. I began taking private lessons from Joann because I loved her classes at the studio. I had never taken private yoga classes until I started with Joann. I trust her because she is very professional, super perceptive and has a lot of integrity. I like her holistic teaching style too. Joann specializes in Ashaya yoga, so alignment is an important feature that reappears often. I have confidence in her because she has extensive knowledge of human anatomy, breath work, mindfulness and yogic philosophy. Joann has years of experience as a personal trainer and yoga teacher, she has studied a variety of body, mind and spiritual healing techniques. Taking private sessions from Joann helped me become more attuned to my body and focus on the areas that need special attention. I would recommend Joann for private healing sessions, she is observant and sensitive to people's bodies and what they might need to heal and achieve goals."

Working with people suffering from pain and injury calls me to continually increase my knowledge of the body and its makeup. I’ve completed additional studies in anatomy with Mount Sinai hospitals FAMI program. In addition, I’ve taken  advanced anatomy studies with Ellen Saltonstall, and have completed many Cross Country Education modules including rotator cuff therapeutics, spine & back care, osteoporosis and osteopenia. I continue my yoga studies with my teacher Dr. Kavitha Chinnaiyan and the Sabda Institute. Most recently I completed thirty hours of study in Trauma Informed Weightlifting with the Center for Embodiment and Trauma at JRI (Justice Reinvestment Initiative) and am currently undertaking Essentials of Elite Performance with Z-health’s neurocentric (brain based) education for movement professionals. I am CPR certified with the American Heart Association. My yoga teachers and influencers include Dr. Kavitha Chinnaiyan, Todd Norian, Michelle Cassandra Johnson and many more.

Certified TREⓇ Provider

I’m a certified TREⓇ provider (Tension & Trauma Release Exercise). I studied TREⓇ  with Jay Gleason MS, LCMHC, LADC of Burlington, VT, and assisted several of his TRE® provider Level 1 & 2 certification training program. I continue my trauma studies with the works of Stephen Porges, Peter Levine, Deb Dana, Bessel Van Der Kolk, Resmaa Menakem, David Berceli, The Center for Embodiment and Trauma at JRI, et. al.

Five years ago I joined my first TRE® group class as a participant to bring more ease into my life experiences living with complex PTSD. TRE® has helped bring more balance and healing to my body. And, since tremoring regularly, my incidences of chronic pain (back & neck), irritable bowel, sleep disturbances, and anxiety, all of which interfered with my ability to work and thrive, have been significantly reduced. Because it has been such a positive experience for me personally, I remain committed to offering TRE® to people as an affordable and accessible strategy for recovery, reducing pain, stress, and the symptoms of stress and trauma.

What’s Included

Pay from your Heart

I know that this work can be life-transforming and I feel strongly that it should be accessible to anyone who wants it. I’ve been in the place where I needed this support and didn’t have it; and I’ve been on the other side, with access to the services I needed to heal, and it was life-changing! It’s  important to me to bring more opportunities to as many as I can, so I have decided to adopt a Pay from your Heart approach to the cost of my services.

Pay from your Heart is an approach I take to pricing my services that invites you to check in with your heart and make payment based on what feels right for you and your personal financial situation. I want you to feel good in our relationship: valuing both what you receive from working with me and what you give to sustain my work.

My program rates reflect my experience and the value of what I offer in a way that feels sustainable to my work and my business. For this program, the suggested cost is $1500. In addition, so that my business can continue to operate, and I can continue to serve others in this capacity, I have set the minimum payment amount at $1200.

Housing and Food: If you are currently in a financial situation where paying the minimum amount of $1200 for the program would mean that you would not be able to afford food for you or your family, or you would not be able to pay for housing, I invite you to reach out to me for suitable arrangements. If this is where you find yourself, I welcome you to join me in a conversation to co-create a sustainable fee based on our shared needs.

Otherwise, I ask that you pay the program cost of $1500. And, I welcome you to pay more if your situation allows, because this helps me and my business continue serving those who are unable to pay the full amount.

I’ve researched what other people charge for similar programs, and those rates fall between $780-$3600. The opportunity here is that you have the chance to check in with your heart, and with where your finances are, and make a decision about what feels right to you to pay for this program.

"Joann is the true essence of a caring healer. She combines her professional skills in body positioning and alignment with her passionate spiritual soul. She takes the time to understand the needs of the individual and then establishes a personal series of healing practices. Joann provided me with a detailed summary of my session with specific detail. I refer back to my sessions to remind myself of what I need to be doing to optimize my practice. Having a chronic autoimmune disease, Joann's healing practices are an integral part of my journey."

FAQs:

I ask for only 12 hours notice for cancelled sessions…life is bumpy, right? AND, if you have to cancel later than the 12 hours, your paid session is still yours! I spend that hour on you. If you can be in touch with me before your session starts, you can give me an assignment. If you forget about it all together, I will spend that hour working on programming for you, based on your goals.

Let’s talk! I want this work to meet your needs, and I know that consistency, especially in the beginning is important. I want to be flexible. I have had folks do their first 5 sessions in the first 5 weeks, take a couple of weeks off to integrate, and repeat. I’m sure there are infinite possibilities we can tap from together to meet both our needs.

Again, reach out. If you have a short term highly specific goal we can tackle in one 60-90 minutes, I’m game! Usually, however, it’s simply not that simple, ha! My intake process is specialized and takes time, at least 90 minutes…and well, we’re already way over one hour.

No problem! We’ll move at your pace and interest level. I have lots of experience adapting shapes and movement practices to all kinds of bodies with all kinds of varying boundaries (my own as well)! We will use a variety of yoga props or household substitutes, chairs, walls, balls and more to help you get the most out of our sessions together.
